I’m Here

We live in times of change: emotions, values, existential needs overlap, meld together in times of conflict or destroy in order to be reborn. New ideas invigorate traditional values with new rhythms. Constellations regroup to create new ones, while others disappear as if they had never existed. New life-paths and values become charged with both sense and senselessness.

Fascinated by these developments, I have been working on my project „I’M HERE“ since 2011, focusing on rhythms that exert their effect in the exhibition space through dialogue with the public.

The intensity of the emotional context is heightened when seeing, hearing, moving and speaking act on all the senses, and life-experiences are integrated into the exhibition space by being transported invisibly from the outside world in the soundscape „I AM PRESENT!“.

Works for the installation „I’M HERE!“:

1. All the works are effective as stand-alones. Or they can be grouped in changing constellations in the exhibition space, enabling the dramaturgy as a whole to be heightened. The space is part of the project, and is integrated into the changing constellations, depending on the requirements of the exhibition concept and choreography.

Painting: „THE EMOTIONS SCORE“: – modular haiku rhythms (see description). Through the intrinsic poetry of their associations, all the materials used stand for life-values that profoundly shape our existence. Fire (burnt iron), ash (Korean tusche), gold (gold leaf), honey (beeswax), blood (resin and red light pigments). Techniques used: multi-layered, resinous glazing of canvas, gilding, layered beeswax, polished Korean tusche on a ground, oxidised and burnt iron spheres.

2. The poem „I’M HERE!“ is what dramaturgically binds the project together, being present in all the works at a sensuous or poetic level.Bildschirmfoto 2013-05-20 um 14.43.44

Realisation: Edited on video, the poem can be projected onto the white wall. Either hand-written or printed, it can be displayed like a poster on the streets. Spoken or integrated into a soundscape, it can be experienced as a performance. All four (top to bottom) and three (from left to right) poem segments can be read horizontally or vertically or be integrated into other works.

3. Soundscape with two audio spotlights, “ I AM PRESENT!“: this documentary recording of an anti-war demonstration provides a structure for the composition of the audio work. Loop (see sketch and description).

Technique: soundscape with two audio spotlights (http://www.holosonics.com)

Audio spotlights work like a beam of light and can be heard only at the spots at which they are focused. Apart from the audio spotlights, no sound is heard. Audio spotlights can be directed at one particular spot from above or lengthwise through the space, depending on the design of the exhibition.

Dramaturgical effect: The empty exhibition space is filled with an unseen human presence from an anti-war demonstration. In the sound corridors created by the audio spotlights, the visitors to the exhibition circulate as they do outside in the streets, in a dense atmosphere of life-threatening, emotionally charged tension. See installation sketch. Please click to hear sound.

4. Two videos for a video installation or as stand-alones: „Nobody under the sun“ and „Anybody under the sun“, Fukushima 2011. Both videos can be used as an installation, 2 x 5 =10 panorama projections or 10 monitors, to create an impression of spatial movement by being projected at intervals of one second.

Dramaturgical heightening: The pulsating destruction of the basis of life emotionally heightens the need for the sensuous harmony of life. The videos can be used in multi-version form or singly as a document in which ash, fire, gold, blood and honey were once present.
